The Pittsburgh Penguins are a National Hockey League (NHL) franchise based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The franchise was established as one of six new franchises of the 1967 NHL expansion. It is currently a member of the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division. Since its founding, the Penguins had played their home games at the Mellon Arena, but it was replaced by the Consol Energy Center in 2010.[2] The franchise is co-owned by Ronald Burkle and Mario Lemieux—the only player/owner in the NHL's modern era.[3] The Penguins have played 3,342 games, winning 1,407, and losing 1,480. The franchise has qualified for the playoffs 25 times; winning 121 and losing 105 post-season games. The Penguins have won the Stanley Cup three times: back-to-back seasons in 1991 and 1992, and again in 2009. They won the President's Trophy for best regular season team for the 1992-93 season. In 2008 and 2009, the Penguins won back-to-back Prince of Wales trophies, emblematic of the team's Eastern Conference championships. The Penguins' last playoff series victory was in the 2010 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
